2020
He did it. He really did it. I’ve walked out on to the runway where others have gathered. My smile is cemented on my face and I’m sure I’ve entered another galaxy. Can this be happening for him? I nod to other singles and couples with looks of joy on their faces, too.
I find a place for us to sit after I capture a beautiful runway photo of a Boeing 777. My young man, and he is young at age 22, is graduating today from his study program. He has learned the craft of aircraft marshaling, and will be a United States Navy Signalman. We are so proud of him.
A long time ago he mentioned he might like to do this, then he never talked about it again.
Now, here we are at this fabulous graduation ceremony. I put my hand on the tissue held by my pocket in my new three piece pinstriped navy suit. I always wanted one and finally went and bought it. This seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to feel special.
The small Navy Band begins to play. My husband squeezes my hand; he’s proud, too. He was always more unsure about the future. Now he’s happy.
