Gardens at Giverney by Claude Monet

Thanks for stopping by today and looking at my blog gardenliliepub! I’m showcasing one of my favorite artists (I have so many others to discover) Claude Monet, a French painter.

Above is the Gardens at Giverney, which I hope to visit soon, and maybe someday I’ll even have a small garden such as this. In the meantime I have this blog. These paintings are pictures from Wikimedia Commons, a site where one can browse and use for purposes such as this, sharing. I selected the above to go with my peach background, a color fresh for summer and I’m from the peach state.

Below is a painting titled, “Three Trees in Grey Weather,” and I love threes. I think I’ve mentioned this before with my last name Troike meaning three horses pulling a chariot in Russian, holistic teachings like physical, mental and spiritual triangles, and I have three children. So here you go with three trees using lavender or periwinkle color for the leaves. Monet loved color, he used it with the impressionistic style.

Three Trees in Grey Weather by Claude Monet

I have written a book of poetry! Never in my life would I have thought I might do that. NEVER. And I’m not a pessimist by any means. Frankly, I’m the opposite. That pink bunny, every-ready charged drum playing commercial, that’s me. Today my book of poetry is FREE on Amazon. Yes. Five days over the summer I’ve put it to specially be FREE. Look below and click on link for purchase. I hope to inspire others like I’ve been inspired. Poetry is real, it’s a way of putting down some words that might have two or three interpretations and you let it go without screaming to the world what you’ve said. Real people write real poetry.

Below is Claude Monet’s Dinner painting. I used to have this one framed and hanging in my kitchen. I gave it away after I enjoyed it for several years. The smile on her face was all I needed for payment. I also used this setting in my novel. It is what I referred to in my mind when I wrote a scene from Into the Vines.

Finally, I’d like to share with you a poem from my titled book, “Autumn Quotes.” The prompt was to write a poem of who you would like to meet present or past and why.

MONET

Another time another place,
I’d gather in the garden.

We’d speak of letters written.
How time is short, our thoughts numerous.

He’d sip. I’d sip. We’d share despair.
Our obsessions by the yard, on and on,
A solitaire, mindful existence, intriguing.

Realism … defined, perception expressed,
Monet the artist, romanticism and freedom.

We’d share the wine; I’d ask the ??
He’d tell me about independence, his struggle,
To be himself, absorbed in context.

Camille and many femmes …
Paint me, paint me, to see what you see,
That would brighten and open my eyes.

We would sit for a bit, touch glass
Toasting art in the garden. Relaxed.

Then we’d take the train, 1877,
And jump right into the station.

And go to the sea, where I would see,
The colors and expressions in his impressions.

But I shall never forget the time
My note card exposed, the magpie,
My endearment for my artistic angel.
Lovingly bestowed upon my lovely,
Naturally like art.

Then we would walk along the Seine
Puffs of his smoke I might catch,
As he would talk of finer points and prisms.

We’d cross the bridge and he’d tell of,
The water lilies, a motif or flower aquarium.

I’d want to know how he kept going,
Amidst an exhaustive, endless piece?

Painting is what I do. I do this with peace.
As war ignites, I paint early and long,
I give for France as my contribution.

We walk the bridge over a vast lily pond,
And end at a cafe where his friends join in,
I hear some wide eyed stories
Never told and I am enlightened.

Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mom’s Day to all my friends, followers and family! I’ve been wanting to highlight one of my friends for a long time now and here she is … Mrs. Jeanne Busch.

11037698_10205454414994155_2984210082980730656_n

“Hi Kim, I am not sure what to write. But I do know my kids are both graduating next week.”

Let me begin by saying I met Jeanne when both of our girls, mine being twins, were cheer-leading at First Redeemer Church in Cumming back in 2007. What a performance they gave months later as we watched them perform in Orlando at a national event. While they practiced 2-3X weekly, Jeanne and I became fast friends, and sometimes those are the best. We drank coffee in the lounge and talked and gossiped and talked some more. We always sat by the fireplace on cozy couches. You meet someone and you instantly click, then whenever you get together that bond is still there. My girls even went to summer horse camp with a fellow cheerleader. Timeless, I tell you.
Jeanne and I stayed in touch through Facebook (later on) and before that through Christmas parties, lunches & dinners out, and New Year’s celebrations!
Happy Mother’s Day to my dear friend Jeanne! Here’s her bio … she’s been busy and should be very proud of her two children. Great job Jeanne!

My Amanda graduates from Ole Miss “law school” and my son from UGA with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Risk Management/Insurance with honors. Amanda is also graduating with honors. My whole goal was to be a stay at home mom and get my kids through school! So I finally achieved my goal. I believed in doing homework right after school and having family meals at the table together every night.

Jeanne and her husband Charles … I have a passion for cooking  and especially cooking for others. I started my own catering business at the age of 14 and have continued doing so to date. I did this so I could continue staying at home and raising my children. I taught them how to live each day to its fullest and to be compassionate and give back to others. Also to try new things and never be afraid to go against the crowd. I believe you should follow your passions in life, you only get one chance so take many. (Great advice).
Hobbies include cooking, gardening, decorating, painting, poetry, belly dancing, kick boxing, anything outdoors, biking, off reading, water sports.
(Belly dancing/I’m there!).

I don’t know if any of this is worth writing about? I’m now a mom with no kids and have to rediscover my self and my passions. I am looking forward to the next chapter and will read many great books “especially” from my friend Kim!!!
(Thanks friend) Of course, time and kids and obligations means less girlfriend time but somehow you pick up right where you left off. Please help me to celebrate all moms and the tireless giving that comes from their souls. They are definitely part of the plan; lets listen to them more!

Happy Mother’s Day to Jeanne Busch

I’m hooked. I gathered my books together from my office and put them together in threes, then stacked them upon each other for one pile. I like threes. I have three children and my last name (Troike) means three chariots (Troika) in Russian. I’m not Russian.

Why Sally writes:

I had dabbled on and off since my teens with poetry and song lyrics that were played out excruciatingly on my guitar. I was more focused on budgets and business reports until I decided to change career in my early 40s and studied nutrition. I was in the process of losing a lot of weight at the time and decided to write a journal that would become my first book in 1998. While I was waiting for that to be published I began writing short stories as practice pieces. I write in a number of genres mainly non-fiction for the books but also romance, fantasy and humour.

I find it is helpful for me to write both non-fiction and fiction in parallel and switch between the two. It stops me getting writers block and keeps me interested in both.

Book Festivals

Here’s a post from my author site. Thanks for reading!

I am pleased to announce that I received an Honorable Mention for my poetry collection titled, “Autumn Quotes.” Here’s a picture of North Depot in Sandusky, Ohio where one of the poems takes place or there by a closeness in proximity.

North Depot

I entered it in a book festival in Orlando, Florida last year and the ceremony will be held in Boston, Massachusetts in January. The table is open for winners, runner up entries and honorable mentions. I’d love to go but have stylist class and no money. The winner gets the trip paid. Lucky dog. The Omni Parker Hotel and specifically the Saturday Club will hold the special occasion. This felt good to be noticed among other entries. I selected this festival based upon recent research about the state and my thoughts on its history.

Other cities host these festivals on line such as LA, New York, Paris, San Francisco…

Quotes by Twain

Mark_Twain_seated_c1900sJane Dougherty from WordPress has invited me to to post quotes for a ‘3 day 3 quote challenge.’ Quotes are all over the internet to build you up and give you that bit of courage to propel you forward. For this three day challenge the quotes may not be my all time favorites, just important right now! Also to save time I’ll have to put all my quotes here on one post. I’m such a rule breaker. And because he was and is so popular I’ll post two quotes from Mark Twain.

Mark Twain wrote this saying. “I have never let schooling interfere with my education.” And for those of us who like to think we are somewhat of a rebel here’s a spot on dandy! “Go to heaven for the climate, hell for the company.”

I think it may have been fun to be in Mark Twain’s company like this next picture and just hang out.

Mark_Twain_seatedParents have to be diversified as each child has their own unique qualities, right?! We are older and wiser, well, sometimes what they say stands out and our memory brings us back to the fine or not so fine distinctions. Twins love each other but can be competitive. When one outdoes the other you might catch a chase throughout the house like I did. Right before the one chased the other at age 11 to pounce on her she said, “It’s Megan’s time to shine.”

Finally, for the third quote I’ll give you one from me. I wrote a large quantity of poetry a couple years ago and plan to write another volume. Somehow, poetry has always been in my life though I had no formal instruction. I’ll blame that on my schooling. What I did have was a father who could recite poetry and was an intelligent, philosophically inclined man. My grades weren’t good enough to be in the fun class that studied poets and Shakespeare. I lost out then but stored it up for the right time. So here I am.

This quote of mine reminds me of a tragedy that befell the bridge down in the keys. I learned about Henry Flagler building a bridge to connect the islands, as he wanted to bring tourists to Key West, while researching for my next novel ‘North Depot 1922.’  A hurricane wiped out the workers and construction of the bridge was halted as it was near completion I believe in the twenties. They didn’t know whether to stay or leave. You can see it sits aside the new bridge.

Quote by Kim. “The storm comes upon us, go now if you must, stay if you can weather Mother Natures abyss.”

2020

He did it. He really did it. I’ve walked out on to the runway where others have gathered. My smile is cemented on my face and I’m sure I’ve entered another galaxy. Can this be happening for him? I nod to other singles and couples with looks of joy on their faces, too.

I find a place for us to sit after I capture a beautiful runway photo of a Boeing 777. My young man, and he is young at age 22, is graduating today from his study program. He has learned the craft of aircraft marshaling, and will be a United States Navy Signalman. We are so proud of him.

A long time ago he mentioned he might like to do this, then he never talked about it again.

Now, here we are at this fabulous graduation ceremony. I put my hand on the tissue held by my pocket in my new three piece pinstriped navy suit. I always wanted one and finally went and bought it. This seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to feel special.

The small Navy Band begins to play. My husband squeezes my hand; he’s proud, too. He was always more unsure about the future. Now he’s happy.
